Linguine with Red Clam Sauce: A Delicious Recipe to Banish PMS, Hot Flashes

Adding more zinc to your diet will combat the copper toxicity that typically triggers hot flashes, PMS and all the other symptom that make being a woman so difficult at times.

Here is a recipe that adds more zinc to your diet that your kids will eat too. It is from my cookbook, The Meltdown Diet and Cookbook: Learn How to Burn Fat 24 Hours a Day, Even While You Sleep.

On a personal note, I first sampled the heaven known as linguine with clam sauce at a small, family-owned trattoria in Greenwich Village in 1975 during my graduate school days at Columbia. Mange, Mange.

BE’s Linguine with Red Clam Sauce

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup celery, chopped, including the leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
  • 10 fresh Roma tomatoes or one 28-ounce can
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine
  • 1 can minced clams or 3 dozen fresh
  • olive oil
  • 1/2 pound whole wheat, spinach or beet linguine

Saute the onion, garlic and celery in just enough oil to keep them from burning. The onion should be translucent and limp. Do not burn the garlic!

Add all the other dried ingredients plus the tomatoes to the same fry pan and simmer 30 minutes, uncovered.

Drain the liquid from the clams if you are using the canned variety and save. If you are using fresh, save 1/2 cup from the water in which you steamed the clams.

Add this liquid plus the red wine to the mix and simmer for 30 minutes, uncovered. The goal is to thicken the sauce.

Boil your water and cook the pasta.

Add the clams themselves to the sauce right before serving.

Perhaps you prefer white clam sauce. That recipe is next!
